Community Projects

The Malambo Women’s Centre and Craft Shop

The “Malambo Women”, Zambian women living on the farm, have opened a craft shop selling their brightly coloured embroidered table mats, duvets and other items, as well as locally made Tonga baskets. Informational / consciousness raising workshops also take place at this community outreach centre.

  • There is a health clinic on the farm.  A Dutch doctor established and runs the clinic, as well as lives on the farm. She can assist with any medical problems.
  • A farmworkshop can assist with any mechanical problems.
  • The farm also facilitates food for work programs and subsidizes education.
  • Since the 1940s, anthropologists, and other researchers doing social and ecological research in the region have often made Moorings farm part of their base camp.  When they are around they can offer a little insight into Tonga culture (the majority ethnic group in the region), local biology, environmental issues and other aspects of life in the region.
